Why subscribe?

Because the world is huge and loud and frightening and sometimes what you want is to hear a single voice speaking about loving things very earnestly.

The internet is changing all the time — changing itself, changing us. There’s a stillness in letters I’d like to share between us, like spreading a tablecloth. I want to set out good things to eat.

Who are you though?

Amal El-Mohtar, award-winning writer of fiction, poetry, essays, criticism. I’m the Science Fiction and Fantasy columnist for the New York Times, I write occasional reviews for NPR, I’m the co-author with Max Gladstone of an epistolary spy vs. spy time-travel novella called This Is How You Lose the Time War, and the single author of a tiny weird book of poems and stories called The Honey Month. I have a lot of stories and poems online for free! This one won the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus awards in 2017.

Stay up to date

Maybe you just want information about where I’ll be reading next or when my last book reviews went up! This is a good way to do that.
